Bella's bikini

Bella's Larimar necklace from Edward

A little about the stone in Bella's necklace.

Larimar is only found in one place in the world-the Dominican Republic- making it one of the rarest gemstones in the world. It's thought to be 20 times rarer than tanzanite.

Larimar is a volcanic stone and is actually a form of pectolite and although pectolite can is found in nearly every hemisphere, none have the unique  blue coloration of hte larimar. It's beautiful shades of blue mirror the shades of the ocean and sky and no two stones are alike, each having it's own unique beauty.  This is what makes it one of the rarest novelties known since pectolite is usually gray or white.

This beautiful stone was first deiscovered in 1974 by an American Peace Corp. worker and a Dominican geologist, Miquel Mendez, although the island's inhabitants and their ancestors were well aware of the stone and had gathered this precious blue stone on the beach for decades.  The name Larimar was given to the stone my Miquel Mendez, combining his daughter's name LARIssa and the word MAR which is the Spanish word for sea.
